Presence
The acclaimed director pushes his film-making abilities through this nifty ghostly tale captured wholly from the viewpoint of a ghost. When a household including mother Rebekah and troubled teenage daughter Chloe occupies their recent residence, the filming device – as the unseen entity – tracks their movements. The teen shows signs of aware of the poltergeist, and it looks like guarding her. However, the motive remains? This is an entertaining concept that doesn't outstay its welcome, featuring a surprise that may be unexpected. Saturday 11 October, multiple showings, Sky Cinema
This Self-Referential Film
Nicolas Cage fully commits to his unique fame via this self-referential adventure. He plays an egotistical celebrity called Nicolas Cage who agrees to a lucrative offer to visit a festive event at a Mediterranean location for the wealthy Javi Gutierrez. Recruited by government spies to spy on the suspected cartel boss, his “nouveau shamanic acting ability” proves useful. October 11th, evening, Channel 4
This Creepy Thriller
The director's claustrophobic thriller remains effective despite the lack of a sequel. Set in the late 70s in Denver, multiple disappearances has made the local kids on edge. Once Finney gets captured by the kidnapper and locked up in a basement, he anticipates a fatal end. Yet the disconnected phone in the room continues to ring, with spooky callers offering help, while the prescient dreams from his sibling Gwen might rescue him. A genuinely scary movie. Saturday 11 October, 10.50pm, Film4
The Tammy Faye Biopic
In the battle between faith and wealth, it's a knockout win for Mammon in Michael Showalter's wonderfully garish film adaptation of the disgraced religious broadcaster and her criminal husband. Garfield plays the corrupt Bakker, who proclaims initially, “God does not want us to be poor,”. He and Tammy Faye commence capitalizing on the nation's Christian beliefs. It's a spectacle of bad interior design, bad makeup and hypocrisy, yet Jessica Chastain succeeds to present the character as a sympathetic figure. October 14th, 1.15am, the Film4 channel
The Spy Mystery
This week's additional entry by the same director is a espionage tale as sharp like the turtlenecks worn by Fassbender's UK spy. He is tasked with uncovering a double agent inside the organization out of five possibilities – one of whom is his own wife. The two stars excel of understated style, so a delicious psychological game of fact versus fiction unfolds. Tom Burke, Regé-Jean Page, Naomie Harris and Marisa Abela participate the clever spy entertainment. Friday 17 October, multiple time slots, the Sky channel
